Error logging in to AnyView IDS Console - Login Failed.
15 August 2005
Issue Description
When launching a Windows authenticated AnyView IDS Console one is presented with the following error in an AnyView Error window:
Error - Login Failed.
This error occurs when the Windows user logged on to the workstation does not have a Windows authenticated 'Login' created in the Security > Logins section of the AnyView IDS Console.
Solution
In order to access a Windows authenticated AnyView IDS Console, the Windows user logged into the workstation must have a 'Login' created in the Security > Logins section of the AnyView IDS Console.
The following steps may help resolve this issue:
1) Have another AnyView IDS Console User access the console.
a. Within the console navigate to the Security > Logins section from the navigation pane.
b. From the results pane, select and right click on your login and select "Modify Login". If a login has not been created for your Windows user, then select "Create Login". This will open the Login Properties window.
c. In the "General" tab of the Login Properties window set your domain/user and check the "Windows authenticated" box. Consult the AnyView IDS Console Online Guide for further details.
d. Click on "Console Administrator" in the "Console Security" tab of the Login Properties Window. Consult the AnyView IDS Console Online Guide for further information on login settings.
e. Click "OK".
If there are no other AnyView IDS Console users, i.e. if the login that is generating the invalid login message is the only AnyView IDS login created then the following steps can be used to regain access to the console.
Note: These steps are meant to be used only as a last resort. Please be aware that following these steps may result in the loss of content created with AnyView IDS, and will require redoing some setup.
2) The first step is to verify that there is indeed only one login created for AnyView IDS, and that this login is EXACTLY the same as your Windows login domain\user. To do so from Enterprise Manager:
a. Navigate to the AnyView IDS database, select the "Users" table.
b. Right-click on the "Users" table and select Open Table > Return all rows.
c. Verify that there is only one record in this table.
d. Verify that the "Login" EXACTLY matches your Windows login. (To verify your Windows login type Ctrl+Alt+Delete and review your "Logon information" in the Windows Security window.
e. If needed modify the "Login" field so that is EXACTLY matches your Windows login.
f. Check that the value in the "LoginType" field is "1"
g. Close the "Users" table.
You should now be able to launch and access the AnyView IDS Console.
